What classes do you teach at CraftJam?

The Ultimate Pom Pom Experience!

How long have you been crafting?

As long as I can remember!! Arts & crafts was always my favorite subject in school and at camp (whattup lanyard!). My grandmothers taught me how to crochet and sew when I was a kid and I’ve always been into making jewelry since my mother was a jeweler.

Only recently did I finally realize that I’m a maker above all else, which inspired me to launch my DIY and lifestyle blog, The Neon Tea Party. I’ve been obsessed with pompoms and tassels for years now and started making them only a year or two back. I can’t get enough!

What do you like about crafting?

You know when you see something in a store you love and think to yourself “I can totally make that!”? There’s major satisfaction in actually creating that thing and proving to yourself that you can indeed make it yourself. The same goes for bringing to life an idea that you have floating around in your head. I also love that crafting allows you to zen out and make a finished product you can be proud of.

What’s the coolest thing you’ve ever made?

I think the coolest thing is yet to come, but the gallery wall in my apartment gets a lot of compliments. It takes up the entire wall and is super colorful and eclectic! I also recently did some projects with denim in which I embellished a pair of jeans and a jean jacket with embroidery, pompom trim, and global textiles–I’m so proud of how they turned out.

What do you like about CraftJams?

Casual atmosphere, good people, and wine, always.

If you could CraftJam with anyone, who would it be?

Ooh, such a hard question. Probably Justina Blakeney from The Jungalow or Joy Cho from Oh Joy!. They’re two of my creative girl crushes and I totally believe we’ll all be friends one day.

What’s the best advice you ever got?

“Build a life you love” and “do the work.” I made the decision at the beginning of this year to go full time working for myself at The Neon Tea Party, which has been totally scary and exciting at the same time.

But I know that as long as I work really freaking hard, follow my gut, and do the best that I can do, the success will come with time. I pass this advice on to any and all entrepreneurs I chat with about the subject.

Best music to listen while crafting?
