Needle Felting: Iris Apfel

We’re paying homage to living legend and all-around style icon Iris Apfel in the best way we know possible: by needle felting her likeness, of course!

Needle Felted Person [Iris Apfel] Kit:

• 12 Colors of Wool Roving – colors will vary based on availability
• White Core Wool Batting
• #38 Triangle Felting Needles
• 4×4″ Foam Block
• Needle Felting Instructions

• Participants work at a table or crafting space that is stable and clear of other items.
• Have chairs available at the workspace.
• This activity should not be done on a couch, floor or other similar location.

Is this activity good for children and families?

Yes, this is a great activity for children and families.  However, please note, needle felting uses an extremely sharp needle that is not appropriate for children eight or younger.  Younger participants can still engage in the craft in other ways, for example, helping to pick the felting colors or assisting with other design choices; but we would need a parent to do the actual needle felting using the needle. Even for older children, we would encourage parents to closely supervise them during the activity.
