Now is your opportunity to learn all the basics of tapestry weaving with special guest JamMaster Jennifer Fleischer of Ibu Textiles! In this 3 hour class you will have the opportunity to design a piece that is uniquely yours and walk away with all the techniques you need to become a master weaver.
In this GuestJam you will:
Learn how to dress your own tapestry loom
Practice various techniques including plain weave
Finish a unique tapestry piece designed by you
This is a beginner-friendly workshop, no previous weaving experience required! All loom and materials will be provided. BYOB – crafting is paired best with your favorite drink of choice!
This event is part of Ibu Textiles’ week long artist residency at Artists & Fleas Soho. Ibu Textiles will be debuting new work and hosting an open studio where she will be weaving on site. An interactive community project will also be happening throughout the week where anyone can participate. It’s a great opportunity to learn and see weaving in person.
Fiber artist Jennifer Fleischer is the owner and founder of Ibu Textiles, a line of hand woven products designed and created in New York. Based in Queens, she weaves each unique piece by hand using a blend of traditional styles and experimental techniques. Inspired by travel and culture (Ibu means 'Mother' in Balinese), Jennifer currently resides in New York with her husband, Nate, and a plant named Clementine.
