Whether in the middle of a pandemic or not, taking advantage of online courses is a great way to further your education while staying in the comfort of your home. If you’re interested in visual arts, then you may have thought that online art classes wouldn’t be as readily available, or give you the same opportunity to learn as live classes would. The good news is that this isn’t true! There are tons of virtual arts and craft classes that you can take that will enhance your skills and keep you safe at the same time. You can keep social distancing and learning or improving new skills with virtual classes.

Online Art Courses

Artists and makers everywhere can rejoice for safe alternatives to live classes. Join together with people from all over to learn a new skill, or get better at what you’re currently doing. If you like to draw and paint, there are painting classes available for you. If you’re thinking about learning to draw, to begin with, there are beginner’s classes too. Now you may be wondering where right?

CraftJam Virtual Workshops

There are so many ways to learn, and so many different and cool activities to do! At CraftJam, we offer a variety of online workshops as we pause our in-person events in New York City. While we miss our NYC people and are sad about the circumstances we’re in today, we’re excited to welcome new classmates from all over the country. One silver lining in all of this is being able to connect with more people through the internet than ever. What a better way to enhance your skills than by being around others doing the same thing yet coming from totally different places?

Painting

We’re offering two upcoming virtual workshops that will give your painting, whether you’ve done some before or not, a new spin.

Our Beginner’s Floral Watercolor WebJam will hone in on specific skills with both watercolors and attention to detail in the beauty of a flower. So, even if you know how to paint, this new area of painting could be a great way to expand your skills.

And what about all of that cool calligraphy and hand lettering we see on wedding invitations and even pretty cards, or DIY home decor signs? You can make your own, but start off with us to learn the basics. In our Introduction to Brush Pen Lettering WebJam 1 & 2 you’ll get everything you need to go on and make your own beautiful creations for years to come!

DIY Virtual Classes

Beyond painting, one really rewarding and fun activity is to build something with your own hands. Do-it-yourself art projects are now being taught virtually, and you’ll feel just as accomplished after you’ve finished than if you were in a live or in-person classroom.

Check out our Macrame Wall Hanging WebJam where we teach students how to create just that – an awesome boho wall hanging made completely from macrame. You’ve probably seen this all over Pinterest and are wondering just how people create those. In just two hours, you’ll be an expert!

For another fun DIY project, try our Negative Space Embroidery WebJam. If you like activities such as knitting and sewing, you may find needlepoint to be just as fun and creative in a new way. Or, if you’ve never tried any of this but would love to try, this workshop is for you!

In The Spirit of Safety

Due to the CDC guidelines, we’re all following to keep ourselves and others safe, we’ve decided that mixing art and face masks is a must. Create your own cloth face mask with the design of your choice in our workshop called CDC Face Mask Sewing WebJam! Again, we have to find silver linings in a time like this – and what better way to do that but to bring art into your home, and into your new mandated face-covering!

Not as beautiful as your face, but almost as unique!

We hope you take advantage of this time to continue to branch out artistically. Art is an amazing way to boost self-esteem and mood. So, what are you waiting for? Sign up for a class at CraftJam and start exploring your artistic side! We are excited to see what you create.
