We are all familiar with the beautiful Day of the Dead sugar skulls and face paintings that we often see during this time of the year. Although these designs are often associated with Halloween in the US, the holiday has actually nothing to do with being scary or haunting. With roots in ancient Aztec rituals, the Day of the Dead starts on the first of November and is a joyful celebration of accepting death. It’s a time to honor loved ones who have died. A ‘calavera de azucar’ is a sugar skull which is a frosted, skull-shaped treat made from sugarpaste and decorated with colorful patterns.

We want to offer you a new experience to honor this Latin American tradition. In this fun workshop a makeup artist will show you step-by-step how to create a Day of the Dead skull face painting.

We will have all the materials for you to create this look, including a mirror, various face paints, black eyeliner, makeup and brushes. We recommend you bring your own makeup bag with you, especially mascara; you can also bring eyelashes to complement the look.

We’ve also got delicious snacks to munch on, and you can BYOB!
